Monroe City, Bowling Green lose, Hannibal advance
Saturday was not a good day for a few Northeast Missouri football teams in the state quarterfinals.
In class 1, the Monroe City Panthers went to the pit to face the Haitian Indians and lost 26-22.
The game was a two-half story, as Monroe City entered the locker room at half-time with a 22-0 lead. But, Hayti came back strong, taking his first lead of the game in the dying minutes.
The Panthers had one last chance, starting on their own ten-yard line with less than two minutes to go. They arrived at Hayti 30 with around half a minute to go, but an interception in the end zone ended the season for Monroe City, with only their second loss of the season.
Meanwhile, in Higginsville, Missouri, the Bowling Green Bobcats lost in the Class 2 quarterbacks to Lafayette County, 52-32.
The second half also made the difference in this game. Bowling Green was only six points behind at halftime, but the Huskers took the lead in the second half, edging the Bobcats 26-6 in the home stretch, ending the season unbeaten. visitors.
Hayti will face Marceline in the Class 1 semifinals next Saturday, while Lafayette County meet Lutheran St. Charles in the final Class 2 four.
The Hannibal Pirates clinched their ticket to the Class 4 semifinals on Friday with their toughest test of the season, hanging on to beat West Plains 35-26. They will face North County next Saturday.
